Welcome to our Pre-School!
At St Joseph’s we are able to offer three and four year olds the opportunity to become confident and independent learners. Each day the classroom and outdoor area are set out with a variety of attractive and stimulating activities that support the seven curriculum areas outlined in the Early Years Foundation Stage. Through such creative child-led play the children develop important skills in communication, understanding and problem solving, which in turn encourages them to become independent both in their thinking and decision-making.
A typical session starts at 9.00am; the children are warmly greeted by the Pre-School staff and are invited to self-register; they are encouraged to find their name card and to place their school bag in their named tray.
The children enjoy taking part in topic-based activities and regularly participate in class games that support their early numeracy and literacy skills. To promote their development in gross motor mobility, the children have daily access to the outdoor area and the opportunity to take part in structured tasks during our weekly session in the school hall. They enjoy playing with tactile material such as play dough, rice and ‘messy jelly’, activities promoting fine motor skills the precursor to hand writing and pencil control. Mid morning a ‘Snack Bar’ is provided, set out as a buffet which the children help to prepare. The morning session ends with a story followed by songs and rhymes.
We say our Pre-School prayer and prepare the children ready to meet their parent or carer at 12.00pm.
